Local Authority Archaeological Liaison Project

This partnership project between RCAHMS, ALGAO:Scotland and HS has been looking at a range of issues common to both RCAHMS and Local Authority archaeology services. The project, to be completed August 2009, aims to:

  • Encourage more efficient data exchange between partners.
  • Identify the needs across the sector for polygonised archaeological data (rather than point data).
  • Report on the IT capabilities of local authority SMRs ahead of new European legislation on Geographic Information, which will shortly become Scottish law.
  • Develop a standard for the display of polygonised archaeological data.

Three reports have now been produced and are available as .pdf files: Polygonisation (1.85MB); IT capabilities of Scottish SMRs(1.55MB) and - from the RCAHMS website - Delivering Effective Data Management.
